A missing radioactive capsule the size of a tic-tac has been found two metres off the Great Northern Highway, just south of Newman in regional Western Australia, but the probe into how it became lost continues.

Professor of Medical Imaging Science in the faculty of medicine and health at the University of Sydney, Dale Bailey, says finding the capsule in a 1400km search area was like finding “a needle in multiple haystacks”.

Professor Bailey says a new tool that was only developed a couple of years ago is credited with helping track down the tiny capsule.
