How the world’s deadliest snakes could save lives
The venom from some of the world’s most deadly snakes could save lives.
Researchers from the University of Queensland have found combining venom from the eastern brown snake and the saw-scaled viper could can create a compound which helps blood to clot quickly.
Research fellow at the University of Queensland, Dr Amanda Kijas, says it’s far more effective than current treatments to stop blood loss.
“The product is far more potent,” she told 3AW Breakfast.
“After trauma you can start bleeding and at the moment many of the products just aren’t effective enough to control that bleeding.”
