An “overwhelming” number of elderly Australians say they want to stay in their home for longer, rather than head to an aged care facility.

It’s prompted calls for government reform to help make that a reality for many older people.

Ian Henschke, chief advocate of Seniors Australia, said survey after survey had suggested that was the case and they’d been calling for action for some time.

“More than 90 per cent say they want to stay in their home as long as possible,” he said.
