How toothbrushes are spreading COVID-19
Households that share a bathroom could be unwittingly spreading COVID-19 via their toothbrushes.
Vice-president of the Australian Dental Association, Dr Stephen Liew, says there are “so many bugs” on a toothbrush.
“We actually found two in three people who test positive for COVID-19 and then share a toothbrush container, not even a toothbrush, pass the virus on to other family members,” he said.
For households who share toothbrushes, the risk of spreading disease is even higher.
“If you share the brush you actually increase the spread by almost a third.
“If you say, for example, have bleeding in the gums, as dopes another member of the family, you can even pass a bloodborne disease on like hepatitis.”
