How Victoria’s new top cop plans to tackle ‘out of proportion’ crime

Victoria’s new police chief commissioner Mike Bush has admitted something needs to be done about crime in Victoria but he isn’t surprised by the level of crime.
He’s told Tom Elliott he wants police out on the streets instead of back in the office filling out paperwork, revealing the state of the technology used by the force.
“I was quite surprised by where they are in terms of their technology. I would say they are at least five to 10 years behind where other people are,” he revealed.

He’s ruled out introducing a permit system for protests, telling the Mornings host it won’t make a difference.
“We need to make sure that our protests [are] peaceful and then if they’re not, that’s when we intervene,” he said.
“It’s really important that when you’re going to protest, you actually do it in a peaceful way, social cohesion is something that is a little bit lacking in these instances – how do we work as a community to bring more social cohesion,” he added.
