Police are on the hunt for a man who launched a disturbing attack on a speed camera operator on Anzac Day.

A union has since claimed those workers are threatened, assaulted and intimated on nearly a daily basis.

The female officer was inside her unmarked car, parked along Murradoc Road at St Leonards, when the male offender smashed the windows of the car and side mirrors with an iron bar while she was inside.

He’s also placed a block of wood, with nails sticking out, in front of the wheels of her car.

“It was a completely outrageous, cowardly attack,” Julian Kennelly from the Community and Public Sector Union told Neil Mitchell.

He said the female officer was still shaken by what had happened.

Police have released an image of a man they wish to speak with over the attack.

The man is pictured wearing a black beanie, sunglasses, a black hoodie and face mask, leading investigators to the belief it was a premeditated attack.

Superintendent David Griffin from Victoria Police’s Road Policing Enforcement Division said it was a cowardly attack on somebody just doing their job.

He said he was confident the offender would be apprehended.

“I’m pretty sure there will be people out there who know who has done this,” he said.
