‘I can see the finishing line’: Gil McLachlan provides update on departure from AFL

The outgoing CEO told Tony Jones that the introduction of a Tasmanian team to the league was “the last thing on the agenda”.

“Footy’s pumping and going well and I think that process is playing out pretty well,” he said on 3AW Mornings.
However the AFL boss was tight-lipped as to who might take over the role.
“That’s not my decision in the end,” he said.
“Because it’s the board who will determine that, and I can’t speak for the Commission … I understand it’s pretty close.”
McLachlan also indicated Adelaide was in the box seat to host gather round again in 2024.
“Adelaide just feels the right spot,” he said.
“The fact that it’s in the middle of Australia and people can drive from Melbourne, you can get here from Perth pretty easily – there’s so many West Australians here.
“And there’s people from everywhere, that’s a pretty strong asset as well.”
