Ian Chappell clarifies his criticism of Joe Root, previews first Ashes Test

Ian Chappell says he has no issue with Joe Root, he just doesn’t think he’s “much” of a captain.

The Australian cricket great said Root was a “very good” batsman, but lacked “imagination” while leading the England side.

“I haven’t got him in my sights, I was asked a question,” Chappell told 3AW.

“I think he’s a very good batsman, but he’s not much of a captain.”
