Ice-affected driver jailed over deadly crash
A man who was high on ice when he killed another driver in an explosive crash in Glen Waverley has been jailed for nine years.
Tomas Targownik was flying along Waverley Road, hitting speeds of more than 200km/h, when he slammed into the back of another car in November last year.
The other vehicle exploded into flames, instantly killing a father of one behind the wheel.
Targownik, 34, pleaded guilty to charges including culpable driving causing death.
Judge Paul Lacava said his driving must be seen as truly shocking, and it was nothing short of a miracle only one life was lost.
He said had it not been for Targownik’s ongoing mental health issues, he would have imposed a longer sentence.
Targownik will spend six years behind bars before being eligible for parole.
