Ice user jailed for bashing elderly disabled man at Reservoir

A 50-year-old man with a history of drug and alcohol abuse has been sentenced to nine years jail for bashing a defenceless elderly disabled man.

Robert Smith, 70, was attacked, robbed and left for dead in his Reservoir unit in August last year.

Howard Bux, who was an ice user, bashed Mr Smith in his backyard – punching him in the head before tying him up and cutting his phone line before fleeing.

Bux must serve 6.5 years before he is eligible for parole.
