IDEAS FACTORY

Infrastructure Australia says road congestion will cost Victoria more than $9 billion per year by 2031.

David Galbally QC thinks ‘road rationing’ is the way to go.

‘We’re obviously not going to get any major road infrastructure for about 20 years,’ he told Neil Mitchell.

‘Those with number plates ending with an odd number can leave for work on the odd hour. That way you can thin down traffic.’

He said traffic issues need to be addressed because people have lost confidence in the train network.

One 3AW listener’s idea was to take trams off the road during peak hour, while another said drivers just need better education.
