Ideas Factory: How to ‘de-royal’ Australia and prepare for a republic

?Australia becoming a republic seems inevitable.

So how can we best prepare?

Shadow Assistant Treasurer Andrew Leigh said we could start by removing the Queen from our coins and replacing them with indigenous figures.

‘We have an extraordinary indigenous culture,’ he said on 3AW Mornings.

Dr Leigh said it could also help with the reconciliation process and that Australia should look at New Zealand’s integration of its indigenous people for guidance. 

‘We can learn something from the New Zealanders,’ he said.
