Australian food trucks face a forest of red tape to become part of Melbourne’s vibrant food culture.

Currently, local Councils decide where food trucks are allowed to operate, often requiring them to be aligned to an event.

But Chris Berg of the Institute of Public Affairs says government should be making life easier for food trucks, not harder.

‘Food trucks should be able to go everywhere they can find a park,’ Mr Berg said.

‘I do not see any public policy reason to prevent them from finding new customers.’

Neil heard from a number of food truck operators, who detailed their struggles with council regulation.
