Immigration expert pulls apart Peter Dutton’s budget reply
The federal opposition has revealed their budget reply last night, but their promise to cut immigration has raised some eyebrows.
Former deputy secretary of the Department of Immigration, Abul Risvi, says permanent residents make up 70 per cent of the immigration program.
“So 70 per cent of the cut, Mr Dutton is referring to, will actually have no impact on net migration, because those people have already been counted in net migration,” he told Jacqui Felgate.
