Hotel occupancy rates in Melbourne are expected to exceed pre-pandemic levels next month.

A crowd of 300,000 is expected to stay in hotels across the city during the spring racing carnival.

Victorian general manager at Tourism Accommodation Australia, Dougal Hollis, says occupancies are forecast to hit 79 per cent in November.

“To put that into perspective we’ve been in the mid-60s up until now so that’s the best hotel occupancy across 2022,” he told Ross and Russel.

“These occupancy figures are pretty impressive given the fact you’ve got 2500 new hotel rooms that have come into the Melbourne market since the start of the pandemic, and there’s another 3000 yet to come.”
