An infectious diseases paediatrician has taken aim at the Big Bash League’s move to allow COVID-positive players to participate.

Melbourne Stars duo Marcus Stoinis and Joe Burns both played in Tuesday night’s BBL opener after testing positive.

Infectious diseases expert Robert Booy has blasted the “stupid” decision.

“This is not the time to make stupid relaxations,” he told Tony Jones, filling in for Neil Mitchell.

“Stoinis didn’t play very well, by the way, because he had COVID, so it was a stupid decision practically and it sets a really bad example.”
