Infectious diseases expert’s blunt COVID-19 message
A leading infectious diseases expert has warned those who think COVID-19 is “going to disappear” are very much mistaken.
Infectious diseases physician and professor at the ANU Medical School, Peter Collignon, says it’s “a mistake” to suggest the pandemic is over.
Speaking on Neil Mitchell’s What Makes You Tick? segment, he said that argument “is premature”.
“I don’t think it’s going to be over for five or 10 years, or maybe more.
“You look at the Spanish Flu of 1918 — that virus continued to circulate until the 1970s.
“The difference is you have your biggest destruction, if you like, and life loss, in the first one or two years.”
