Inmate at maximum security prison stabbed to death

An inmate at the maximum security prison west of Melbourne has been stabbed to death.

The 23-year-old man was set upon just before 7pm last night.

Emergency services were called to Port Phillip Prison at Truganina, following reports of a stabbing.

Paramedics worked on the prisoner before pronouncing him dead about an hour later.

Police are now investigating.

They’ve since detained a number of people inside Port Philip Prison, in relation to the incident.
