The Allan government has moved to fix an oversight, which would have seen pedestrians pay a fee to walk through an underpass connecting two Metro Tunnel stations.

Tuesday’s post on the Metro Tunnel X account stated that touching on a Myki at the State Library Station and touching off at Melbourne Central Station would “be counted as a trip and your Myki will be charged.”

Jacqui Felgate described this detail about the Metro Tunnel as “a toll road for humans”.

“What this is, is a sneaky little toll road under the ground at a station that your taxes have already paid for,” the 3AW Drive host said.

Late Wednesday evening, the government confirmed that gates would be left open to allow pedestrians to pass through free of charge.
