Investigation reveals radical islamist group has ties to youth and student groups
An investigation has found links between a radical islamist organisation and two seperate youth groups, including pro-Palestine encampments.
Investigative reporter at The Age, Nick McKenzie, says the group, Hizb ut-Tahrir, holds extremes views, and has praised Hamas for their recent actions in Israel.
“It is using front groups, so groups that look like they’ve got nothing to do with Hizb ut-Tahir, that are capitalising on legitimate grievances that the community has about what’s going on in Gaza,” he told Ross and Russ.

He also says the group has been designated as a terrorist organisation in other countries.
“We have laws that make it trickier to proscribe … It’s what ASIO would describe as ‘awful but lawful’,” he said.
