Current traffic conditions on the West Gate Freeway have commuters wondering if they’d be better off cycling.

So Neil Mitchell put it to the test.

3AW listener Carol, who described the traffic as ‘bulldust’ on Wednesday, drove from Werribee train station to the Todd Road exit of the West Gate to determine just how long it takes.

Meanwhile, 3AW Mornings producer Michael Hilder did the same route on a bicycle.

As a post-script, Carol called back when she got home.

It turns out that after a 90-minute journey inbound, the return trip took less than a quarter of an hour.
