Is it OK to question mental illness? Tom Elliott asks Jeff Kennett

Is it ever OK to question somebody who says they have a mental illness?

Tom Elliott explored the issue with Beyond Blue chairman Jeff Kennett on Tuesday.

The 3AW Drive host wanted to know why it was often seen as taboo to talk about the issue.

‘It’s a good question and it’s a difficult question to answer,’ Mr Kennett said.

‘What I will say is I don’t like people who popularise the term mental health or depression to make an excuse for their behaviour.’
