As Australia marks 50 years since the shock dismissal of Gough Whitlam, Tom Elliott has posed a question for the state governor.

“The Whitlam government was dismissed because it was borrowing money outside the parliamentary framework, it was ignoring the will of the Senate, and there were various other reasons too,” he said.

“Well, is that very different to what’s happening in Victoria at the moment?”

Professor of Constitutional Law at Monash University & Associate Dean of the Faculty of Law, Luke Beck, has weighed in on the matter.
