‘It was terrifying’: Distressed eyewitness reacts to shots being fired during police drill
A distressed eyewitness has detailed the panic she felt after shots were fired during a police training drill at Anzac Station last night.
South Melbourne resident Kris told Jacqui Felgate she called Triple Zero before learning it was a training exercise, and said the timing was “really poor” after the Bondi terror attack, and with tourists in the city for the Australian Open.
“People could’ve hurt themselves running in front of trams, it was just really distressing,” Kris said on 3AW Drive.

Victoria Police says it did take extensive measures to notify residents about a police operation at Anzac Station, which caused people to run in terror, believing they’d heard gunshots.
Police say there was a letter drop to nearby residents, and signs were also placed in the area advising where it was occurring and that there may be loud noises.
