Victorian pedestrians are more risk than before, as the pedestrian road toll hits a new high.

Appearing on 3AW Breakfast, Leading Senior Constable Adam West, confirmed the launch of a specialist road policing operation set to kick off this week.

Operation Aware is set to converse with both pedestrians and motorists in high foot traffic areas, with failure to correctly give way being cited as the number one factor contributing towards pedestrian deaths.

Press PLAY to hear how much the road toll has climbed

May and April are historically seen as the deadliest months on the roads, as driving conditions changes as winter approaches.

“We’ll be having a chat to motorists and pedestrians in high pedestrian areas actively out there. And we ask all road users to raise their awareness and hopefully we can avoid some collisions there,” West said.

The operation is set to run until September.
