Police are regularly taking an hour to attend jobs such as armed robberies and home invasions, the boss of Victoria’s police union admits.

Speaking to Neil Michell, Police Association secretary Wayne Gatt says “it’s certainly what our patrol supervisors, they’re our sergeants and senior sergeants, told us in the most recent research that was conducted”.

“It is a fact they have to what we call ‘hold jobs’, which is delay a response,” he said.

Mr Gatt said police have long held priority three jobs, which do not require an urgent response from police, but officers are increasingly having to delay response to priority one and two jobs.

Victoria is the only state in Australia that doesn’t currently monitor response times for police.
