It’s claimed we are swearing more than before the COVID-19 pandemic began
It’s claimed the coronavirus pandemic has played a part in making us swear more.
Research from news and intelligence agency Storyful found the F-word, S-word, A-word and all their different variations rose 41 per cent on Facebook from 2019-2021 and 27 percent on Twitter.
Michael Adams, linguist at Indiana University, Bloomington, said it was hard to know whether swearing had increased over time – largely due to a lack of evidence – but said frustration, anger and change due to COVID-19 made sense.
But it turns out it’s not necessarily a bad thing.
“There is good scientific evidence that stress decreases when you swear,” he said.
