‘It’s just a gouge’: Concerns raised over parking fines enforced by some local councils

Tom Elliott

Council Watch spokesperson, Dean Hurlston, has voiced his concerns with some councils across the state, accusing them of price gouging parking fines above the minimum amount of $37.

Hume City Council reduced their parking fines from $90 to $37 in 2020, which has been deemed a success, albeit during the COVID pandemic with less cars on the roads.

Mr Hurlston claimed councils are “addicted” to this revenue, and hinted at some councils conducting “illegal” activity in relation to parking fines.
