Jacinta Allan defends Myki upgrade rollout delay

Tom Elliott

Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan says her government has “always said” the Myki upgrade would be a staged roll out, amid further delays to the troubled ticketing system upgrade.

State budget papers published on Tuesday revealed the long-awaited Myki replacement program, which was meant to be implemented at the start of 2026, is now not expected to be complete until 2028.

Ms Allan was interviewed by Tom Elliott on 3AW following the new state budget, and was pressed for answers on the long-awaited Myki ticketing replacement.

“From next year we will be able to see that contactless touch on touch off starting to be rolled out across the system,” she said on 3AW Mornings.

The Premier said she understood how people want to see it happen “as quickly as possible”, but the massive public transport system makes it difficult.
