Jack Watts says it was a difference of opinion that ultimately led to his departure from Melbourne.

The former number one draft pick says it’s been an emotional few weeks after he was formally traded to Port Adelaide for pick 31.

“In the end it was a difference in opinion and views. I’ve got my head around (the decision) over the last few weeks, I guess a new chapter in life.”

He told Neil Mitchell he had some clues his time was up at the club, and while he understood the decision, it had been an emotional few weeks.

“I’m probably one of the very few still around from those dark days and I think they probably want to move on a bit,” he said.

“At the end of the day you move on and make the best of the situation.”

Watts said an article published on the club’s website regarding his form was one of the clues.

“If your own club is putting that up on your website it makes it pretty difficult,” he said.
