Jacqui Felgate on the $1 billion prison near Lara which costs $36 million to keep empty
A $1.1 billion dollar prison near Geelong has been sitting empty for a year has cost the taxpayer $36 million a year.
The prison currently has a group of prisoners from the Langi Kal Kal prison who are only there temporarily due to the Bayindeen bushfire.
“Your children can’t get air conditioning in their state government school class rooms, but you know where the air conditioning runs all day and all night? It’s at the ghost prison – with no one in it,” Jacqui Felgate said.

A Victorian government spokesperson told 3AW Drive the facility is currently used to support corrections officer training.
