Press PLAY below to listen to Jacqui’s full review of an Italian joint she thinks is “simply stunning”

If you’re a fan of Park Street Pasta and wine then you’ll love Osteria Renata. The team behind the South Melbourne fave has launched its cooler sister, on High Street Prahran.

First, you’ll be struck by the building itself, the gorgeous art deco lighting and the dark green exterior – it’s simply stunning. A long bar has room to grab a quick pasta on the go or you can settle in to the casual restaurant.

We began with the tuna tartare. It’s served with green olive and beurre bosc pear. I loved the mix of tuna and olive – it’s a different take and delicious. Don’t miss ordering the gnocco fritto cacio de pepe served with 36-month-aged acorn-fed Iberico jamon… this version of fried dough is exceptional. It’s fluffy and crispy – I’ll be back for this dish.

Spaghetti with rock lobster needs to be ordered 48 hours in advance so we enjoyed the Quadratti with porcini mushrooms and added truffle on top for a few extra dollars. Because why not?

The tagliatelle with spicy pork shoulder ragu was the dish of the night – the ultimate winter comfort dish. Squid ink mezzemaniche is rich and dark. All pasta is made in house in a special pasta lab which you can see from the back of the restaurant.

Mains include bass straight grass fed skirt steak and whole garfish with pippies and fregola sarda.

Osteria Renata is a luscious slice of Italy in downtown Prahran.

Pro tip: the back courtyard – known as the prosecco garden – seats 25 and will definitely be a hotspot come summer!
