Jacqui Felgate slams magistrate’s ‘outrageous’ decision

Jacqui Felgate has slammed a magistrate’s decision to grant a holiday request to an academic accused of possessing child abuse material.
Retired judge-turned legal academic, Alan Boulton, who allegedly accidentally flashed the material on the screen during a lecture at Monash University, has on Thursday been approved by a magistrate to go on a European holiday.

“Someone who is charged with allegedly possessing child abuse material … Can still go for a lovely summer in Europe, and that is outrageous,” she said on 3AW.
Former Magistrate and Dean of Law at Southern Cross University, Professor David Heilpern, said the decision “surprised” him.

“The last thing you would want is the person to be leaving the jurisdiction … And going somewhere where it could be really difficult to get him back,” he said on 3AW Drive.
