Jane Edmanson receives Gold Laurel Award and inducted into Hall of Fame
Jane Edmanson OAM has received a 2016 Gold Laurel from the Horticultural Media Association of Australia, and been inducted into their Hall of Fame.
The prestigious award is only given out every two years and recognises horticultural media personalities, such as Jane, who have made an outstanding contribution to gardening.
Jane’s horticultural career started in 1976 where she worked as a nursery hand. In this role she monitored a program for visiting groups of students and in particular those with disabilities. She was eventually promoted to be Deputy Principal at the Victorian Schools Nursery.
From there, Jane has been a contributor to Gardening Australia, former radio stations 3AK and 3MP and is currently a well-loved contributor on 3AW’s Big Backyard.
Jane has also been a prolific columnist and author. She continues to write for Gardening Australia magazine, has written for the Herald Sun and other newspapers, magazines and newsletters. She also has written six books including Ideas from Private Gardens, The Australian Garden, Jane Edmanson’s Favourite Plants, Cheap and Easy Propagation and Jane Edmanson’s Working Manual for Gardeners.
Aside from her passion for gardening, Jane is an avid supporter and patron of various horticultural and planting societies around Australia and she is known for her warm and pragmatic nature.
Denis Walter caught up with Jane at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden show to talk about her prestigious induction into the Hall of Fame.
