Amanda Vanstone’s swipe at Bindi Irwin on Channel 9 last night has split 3AW and its listeners.

The former senator sparked controversy when she said Irwin ‘wasn’t special’ because her father had died.

Neil Mitchell was stunned by Vanstone’s comments.

But many of his callers agreed with her.

Nick said he lost his father when he was a two-year-old and didn’t expect any special treatment because of it.

‘What should I do, get an Order Of Australia for it?’ he exclaimed.

Gabby, 17, went a step further and said she thought Bindi had exploited her dad’s death.

‘Very much so,’ she said.

But Jane Holmes quickly put things into perspective with a moving throwback.
