Jarryd Roughead opens up after his maiden win as Hawthorn captain

Sportsday

Jarryd Roughead has secured his first win as Hawthorn skipper.

The Hawks smashed West Coast by 51 points to record their first win of 2017.

Roughead said he understands why the Hawks have received a lot of bad press after their poor start to the season.

‘When we’re down the bottom, there’s 5-6 years of saved up bad news and criticism that you guys (the media) get to write,’ Roughead said.

‘Journos are going to write what they want to sell papers.’

Roughead threw praise upon another teammate celebrating a milestone win for the club, Tom Mitchell.

‘You could hide a footy in Australia and he’d still find it.’
