Jarryn Geary rejects suggestions Paddy McCartin isn’t working hard enough
St Kilda captain Jarryn Geary has rejected suggestions young forward Patrick McCartin isn’t working hard enough.
Geary told 3AW Football he was confident the former No.1 draft pick would eventually justify his selection.
McCartin was dropped for St Kilda’s weekend clash with Collingwood, leading some to question whether he was living up to expectation.
Matthew Lloyd asked Geary if McCartin was putting in the work.
‘I think he has,’ Geary said on 3AW Football.
‘He’s probably not a natural athlete like some of the other key forwards in the competition.
‘He’s a big brute of a lad and that’s the way he plays his footy.
‘It’s hard to compare him against other key forwards like ‘Rooey’ who runs around and explodes off his opponent ? Paddy’s not that type of player ? he’s more of a stay at home forward who’s eventually going to be able to outmuscle defenders.
‘He’s obviously working hard at the things he needs to improve and I’m confident, with time, he’ll be really good for us.’
