Jeff Bourman tells Neil Mitchell he’s not surprised by gang fears

Tom Elliott

A former policeman turned politician says he’s not surprised to hear gun owners are prepared to shoot violent home invaders.

Jeff Bourman says Victoria needs to look at legalising the use of capsicum spray.

It follows the growing fear across Melbourne surrounding gangs like APEX, whose members violently attack people inside their home before stealing luxury cars and other items.

Neil Mitchell has received several calls from licenced gun owners this week who said they’d have no issue using their gun, should their home be invaded by an African gang.

The 3AW Mornings host fears that would almost certainly end in tragedy.

But Mr Bourman, from the Shooter and Fishers Party, said it simply reflected the current mood of the public.

‘That shows the level of fear in society that’s coming from this,’ he explained.

‘People are actually getting that scared.’
