Jeff Kennett’s left-field idea to deal with offending minors
Former Victorian premier Jeff Kennett has called on minor offenders to be sent to a ‘prison farm’, rather than be sentenced to time in a juvenile justice centre.
Mr Kennett said as a result of a recent rise in youth crime, it was time to send minors to a facility when they’re able to actively work and stay “physically active”.
“(The system) have at the moment isn’t working,” he told Tom Elliott on 3AW Mornings.

“For the younger ones (who commit minor crimes), for me it’s about ensuring they are physically active and they’re put into a facility like a farm where they work hard and also have access to educational facilities.”
