The term ‘budgie smugglers’ is officially in the dictionary.

But who created the now world-famous piece of Aussie slang for men’s bathers?

‘Budgie smugglers’ was among the more than 6,000 new entries in an updated version of the Australian National Dictionary.

Alan McGirvan, former Brisbane radio presenter, is adamant Aussie cricket great Jeff Thomson was the first person to say it in public.
