Jessica Mauboy has been issued a ‘please explain’ notice over her national anthem no show at the Melbourne Cup.

3AW’s Dee Dee Dunleavy told Neil Mitchell the Australian pop star needed to release a statement after withdrawing just minutes before her scheduled performance.

It was hastily announced that another singer ? Nadia Aya, would be singing the anthem instead.

A representative for Mauboy reportedly said there were ‘issues over clothing and preparation’ and that she was ‘incredibly sorry’ for what had happened.

But Dee Dee said that wasn’t good enough.

‘I think she’s coming out of this very badly,’ she said on 3AW Mornings.

‘She needs to release some sort of statement because she’s coming across as a diva.’
