Jim Chalmers announces he won’t contest Labor leadership

Anthony Albanese will be the new Labor leader.

Jim Chalmers will not contest the leadership ballot.

“My understanding is he could take over as soon as today,” Neil Mitchell said.

Albanese will replace Bill Shorten, who resigned following Saturday’s shock election loss.
