The chief football writer at The Age, Jake Niall has defended his article which claims a part of the AFL draft system is broken.

He says fans don’t understand the point system in distributing players.

“The points were introduced to try and streamline this, but I think what’s happened is that the teams that have father sons in particular and academy players … that’s been watered down for the non-northern market teams,” he told Sam McClure and Jimmy Bartel.
