Jimmy Bartel has amusingly revealed Cameron Ling once injured himself by flipping a golf cart the day before a game.

The former Geelong star shared his previously little-known story on 3AW Football while discussing the best excuses he’d heard for injuries.

Bartel said he and Ling had been paired up at a golf day the day before a clash with Fremantle in his first season with the Cats.

‘When you get two young blokes and a golf cart – you try and test the limits,’ Bartel explained.

‘We were zipping down a hill and it got onto two wheels, tipped over and poor Cameron’s leg was underneath the golf cart – it swelled up pretty black and blue.’

Ling was then pressed about his leg injury by the club physio the following day while preparing for the game.

Bartel said he was listening along nervously while Ling explained he’d ‘twisted it’ while playing an awkward shot out of a sand bunker.

‘We’ve kept that pretty quiet for our whole entire football career,’ Bartel said.
