John Burns fined, disqualified, over drink-driving offence
3AW Breakfast presenter John Burns has been fined and lost his licence after pleading guilty to a drink-driving charge.
Burns returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.061 on the way home from a charity speaking engagement late last year.
Due to a prior breach of 0.051 within the past 10 years, Burns was required to appear at court to determine the length of the suspension.
He was convicted and fined $622 on Thursday.
He has also been disqualified from driving for 12 months.
During the hearing, Magistrate Jonathan Klestadt acknowledged there was no allegation of bad driving, however, the blood alcohol level was sufficient enough to be a risk.
Burns said he’d “learned his lesson” and hoped “some good” could come from the case.
“You’ve got to be very, very careful if you’re drinking anything,” he said.
