Union boss John Setka has backed the Albanese government’s plan to axe the union-hunting construction watchdog, which Setka says has been an “attack dog” for the Liberal Party since it was established.

The Australian Building and Construction Commission will be defunded over the next year, the Labor government says.

“I think it’s a good thing,” the CFMEU leader told Tom Elliott on 3AW Drive.

“I’ve seen what they’ve done.

“They’re a Liberal Party attack dog.”

Setka also addressed reports of a demarcation “war” between the CFMEU and Australian Workers Union on several government projects.

“To be honest, there has been a war going on between the two unions for the last 25 years,” he said.

“It’s not delaying the project.”
