Four-time Hawthorn premiership player Jordan Lewis has played his last game for the club, having been traded to Melbourne today.

The Demons have sent picks 48 and 66 to the Hawks in return for Lewis, as well as picks 57 and 68.

Speaking on the Sports Today program, Lewis opened up on the conversation he and Alastair Clarkson had which ultimately sent him packing.

‘It was a difficult conversation, but once it was had we were really mature about it,’ Lewis told Sports Today.

There were reports that Lewis was expecting Clarkson discuss a promotion to become the Hawks’ captain, however Lewis dismissed that theory.

Instead he says that he had an inkling Clarkson was coming to discuss his future.

Initially there was disappointment from Lewis when the conversation was finished, but he was ready to move on quickly.

‘Cut up? Maybe. Because I still saw myself as a Hawthorn player,’ said Lewis.

‘At the end of the day when I look back on it, you early thank him for giving me that opportunity now (to look elsewhere).’

Lewis has signed a three-year deal with the Demons.

It caps an interesting off-season for the Hawks, with club champion Sam Mitchell joining West Coast in a shock move.
