Josh Frydenberg’s economic message in the lead-up to Christmas

The federal treasurer says there is an expectation Australians will begin spending money again in the lead-up to Christmas.
And it will be welcomed by government.
“We’d absolutely welcome that additional economic activity, because that will create more jobs,” Josh Frydenberg told Neil Mitchell.
It comes after Australia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) fell 1.9 per cent in seasonally adjusted terms in the September quarter of this year, while both Melbourne and Sydney battled lockdowns.
But Mr Frydenberg said with borders open and no major cities in lockdown, there was an expectation the economy would begin trending in the right direction.
Meanwhile, the federal treasurer also shared his thoughts on the impending departure of Christian Porter from parliament.
“He was a valued member of our team and would have absolutely been within his rights to run again,” he said.
“I read his statement, and have obviously spoken to him, and the toll on one’s family life is very real in this job.”
