A journalist who branded three female Sunrise hosts a ‘bimbo brigade’ in a column says she stands by her use of the word.

Samantha Armytage, Natalie Barr and Edwina Bartholomew have come under fire over a botched skit with Sex And The City star Kristin Davis.

Virginia Haussegger admitted on 3AW Mornings it was a ‘tough’ word to use, before explaining what she meant.

‘In this case, I intended it to refer to women behaving in a way which is not befitting of women in the position they’re in,’ she told Neil Mitchell.

‘I really wish that I didn’t have to write that column.’

But Neil Mitchell questioned whether it was necessary and said it could be viewed as sexist.

‘If I was to say they’re all bimbos, the feminist lobby would be after me,’ he said.
