Julia Gillard says she made a “mistake” by not raising her gender earlier when she became Prime Minister.

Speaking in London, Ms Gillard said it had exposed her to accusations that she only raised it late in the game as a political tactic.

“She did use it as a political tactic,” Neil Mitchell said.

“Goodness me.

“She was one of these people who said gender had nothing to do with it – she’s right – gender has nothing to do with it.

“You do a good job or a bad job.”

As for her mistakes…

“I could draw up a list of other things,” Neil Mitchell said.

“Opposing gay marriage for political expediency, for one.”
